Astrophotography and Nightscape Cameras, Modifications & Conversions

Camera Modification Provider for NASA.

Spencer's Camera & Photo, the leading provider of Digital Camera Infrared Conversion Services, now provides a unique modification service specifically for nightscape and astrophotography purposes. With the increased interest in Nightscape and Astrophotography many photographers require more from their normal cameras in order to capture stunning nightscape, astrophotography and/or night sky images with consistant high quality results. The extreme demands of night sky imaging will stretch the performance of any camera on the market today. Spencer's Camera & Photo has solved these problems for you.

Images of the Milky Way, deep sky objects, including Nebulae, Galaxies, Star Clusters and other objects are sharper, more visible and more brilliant when using an astro-converted camera. Also, the exposure times are shorter when shooting an astro modified camera because more light is reaching the imaging sensor. We calibrate your camera for precise focus at all focal lengths with special attention to infinity focus. Also, we can install our specially designed heat transfer system in your digital camera, drawing heat from the imaging sensor which reduces digital noise effects caused by long exposures. We can install the heat reduction system in an unconverted camera as well. If you shoot long exposures, time-lapse and/or video and would like less digital noise in your images please contact us for more details. (Order an Astro-Conversion here)

(Canon EOS 6D Full Spectrum Astro-Modified Camera, No on-lens filters used)

Rest assured, you can still use an Astro-Modified camera as a "normal" camera, with no negative effects. Simply install one of our UV/IR Hot-Mirror filters on your lens and your camera will produce the same high quality images as before the modification. A full Spectrum Astro-Modified camera can also be used for Infrared imaging by simply installing an On-Lens IR Filter of your choice to your lens. A Full Spectrum Astro-Modified camera is the most versatile type of camera for all your needs; Astrophotography, Infrared Photography and Normal Photography, all with the same camera.

A few years ago we had the honor and privilege to work closely with NASA specifically converting and modifying two Nikon digital SLR's for use on the International Space Station (ISS). During this prolonged testing and modification process we developed many improvements for digital SLR imaging specifically for astrophotography and survival of extreme environments including space flight. Many of the developed improvements are used in our standard astro-conversion service.

Spencer's Camera performs the best Astro-Converison service because of the specialized technical training of their technicians and because they are experienced astrophotographers. Just starting in the world of astrophotography? Contact us with any questions you may have and we'll be happy to help.

Clarence:

Wow, working with you is just like working with my crew space support group at NASA.  I love working with can-do people.   Thanks for the follow up info here.  It all looks good to me and I know we will put together the best camera produced.  It is a pleasure to work with such dedicated people.  Let me know if you have any issues/questions in dealing with NASA.

Again, it is a pleasure to be working with you.

I called Canon to see if they could remove my filters in my camera (Canon T3I) to convert it to full spectrum for my astrophotography imaging. The representative said they did not do this type of work but referred me to Spencer's Camera and Photo as the only dealer that they would recommend. I called Spencer's and Clarence was amazing at explaining what he could do to make this happen for me. The turnaround was incredibly fast and the work performed was impeccable. Dealing with Clarence was very informative, he didn't just do the conversion and leave me to my own devices. He answered every question I have had in a way I could understand it, he has followed up with me since to see how things are still going for me. He actually cares about the work he does and about his customers being satisfied! My camera was converted full spectrum removing internal filters and replacing with clear quartz. I use this camera now as my main imaging camera for all of my astrophotography and could not be more pleased with the results I am getting from it!

Thank you again Clarence Spencer for the exceptional work you did for me.

Dear Clarence,

I got a standard Sony NEX-5 camera and found it’s a single shot colour images quite good. However I was not satisfied with the red colour spectrum in the deep space images and decided to get a conversion done.
It was a pleasure to deal with Spencer’s Camera and my new kit arrived quickly. What a difference it made! The colours are rich and there is less visible noise.
Thanks for the high quality service!

Spencer’s Camera,

I must admit, I was a little skeptical to use your company for the first time for my astroconversion but the quality workmanship has proven to be worth it.  We finally had clear skies for the past week and the conversion has proven to be wonderful.  All my images are clear of dust and the digital noise is noticeably lower than my earlier camera.  I am confident in shooting very long exposures knowing the results will be great.  Astrophotography is a uniquely difficult hobby and having good equipment makes all the difference.  There is nothing more frustrating than equipment limitations especially poor camera quality.  The time and effort you have invested in developing your astroconversion is well worth the results.

Thanks again for the quality work!
Stephen Sykes
